How To Use It

Remote controller - installing the battery

The Standby Buster remote control requires an LRV08 12V DC battery (provided). To install:

  1. Slide the battery compartment cover in the direction of the arrow to open
  2. Insert the battery with the positive (+) to left and the negative (-) to the right
  3. Replace the cover

Connecting one socket

  1. Plug a Standby Buster socket into a standard electrical socket that is switched off
  2. Switch the electrical socket on
  3. Press the 'ON-OFF' button on the Standby Buster socket; the green light will start to flash on and off every 3 seconds, the Standby Buster socket is ready to be connected to the remote control
  4. Choose one of the zones: each pair of 'ON' and 'OFF' buttons numbered 1 to 4 on the Standby Buster remote controls a zone. The Standby Buster socket will be connected to the zone you have chosen.
  5. Press and hold the chosen 'ON' button of the zone you have chosen; the green light on the Standby Buster socket will begin to flash rapidly and then stop, the Standby Buster socket is now connected
  6. To check that connection has been successful, press the relevant 'ON' and 'OFF' buttons; the green light on the Standby Buster socket will be switched on and off

Connecting additional sockets

ONE Standby Buster socket per zone

You can choose to connect one Standby Buster socket to each zone.

To do this, repeat steps 1 to 6 above, choosing a different zone on the remote control for each Standby Buster socket.

MORE THAN ONE Standby Buster socket per zone

You can choose to connect more than one Standby Buster to any zone: you could, for example, connect your TV, DVD, digital set-top box and video recorder to zone 1, all your table and standard lamps to zone 2, your computer printer, monitor, speakers and broadband router to zone 4, etc.

To do this, repeat steps 1 to 6 above, choosing the zone that you want to add this Standby Buster socket to.

If you want to change how any Standby Buster socket is connected you must first reset it. To reset, with the Standby Buster socket plugged in, press and hold the 'ON-OFF' button on the Standby Buster socket until the green light begins to flash on and off every 3 seconds: the Standby Buster socket is ready to be connected to the Standby Buster remote control. Follow steps 4 to 6 above.

Connecting your appliances

You can either plug a single appliance directly into the Standby Buster socket or you can plug a power distributor, such as a four-way block, into the Standby Buster socket.

CAUTION, you must make sure that the power drawn does not exceed the power rating of the electrical socket, any power distributor that you use or that of the Standby Buster which is 3,680W (3.6kW).

Using your Standby Buster

Once you have connected your Standby Buster socket(s) to the Standby Buster remote control (see above) you can switch the socket(s) connected to each zone by using the 'ON' and 'OFF' buttons or you can switch off all your Standby Buster sockets (that are in range) by pressing the 'ALL OFF' button.

Troubleshooting

If the Standby Buster socket does not respond to the remote control:

Check Standby Buster socket

  1. Check that the electrical socket is switched on and powered by plugging in an appliance that you know is working such as a lamp - if it is not, contact a qualified electrician

  2. Try to operate the Standby Buster socket manually by pressing the 'ON-OFF' button on the Standby Buster.
    1. If manual operation works go to 'Check Standby Remote control' problem
    2. If it does not work, call customer service on 0845 8 553 553

Check Standby Buster remote control

  1. Check the green light on the Standby Buster remote control goes on when you press one of the buttons. If it doesn't, try changing the battery
  2. Try the Standby Buster remote control as near as possible to the Standby Buster socket
  3. Reset the Standby Buster socket: press and hold the 'ON-OFF' button on the Standby Buster socket until the green light begins to flash on and off every 3 seconds: the Standby Buster socket is ready to be connected to the Standby Buster remote control. Next follow steps 4 to 6 of 'Connecting one socket'

If the Standby Buster still does not respond to the Standby Buster remote control, call customer service on 0845 8 553 553.
